February Slackers

Yes, another shameless plug for the night I help run, the Slackers Convention. Actually, I never understood why it was shameless to plug anything. What should I feel ashamed? Am I a snail hiding under prehistoric rock formations? It's silly. Promoting fun is always worth while. On that note, come down on 2nd Feburary & help us throw a great party for my birthday month, the month of love & the first sign of an approaching spring. In the main room, we've got Radioactive Man headlining, with support from party experts Ape-x (Jude & Castrillion), loveable Dirtpop, and some good ol' nu skool breaks from Pav & Squashqar. Giving the headliners a run for their money in the bar & backroom, we've got Slackers residents DJ Y-Not and Matt Slackers, Funkcollectif sound system DJs, Subslider & from Electric Playboys DropTop Daddy and Moai. It's a shit hot line up for a what will be a well-needed and well-deserved dance-infested night. If you're getting itchy feet, come down to the Slackers Warm Up at Riki Tiks, which runs from 6pm-10.30pm and listen to the guys and gals DJ live on NSB Radio. Slackers Convention, Saturday 2nd February, Concorde 2, Brighton, 11pm - late, £6 before midnight.

Picture of the Day

The radios just won't shut up about today being the Most Depressing Day of the Year. I didn't bankrupt myself on maxed out credit cards for hedonistic Christmas consumerism and even I feel depressed just hearing the radio dj's mindless refrain. What's wrong with these people? Hence this picture. Life must be pretty good if you're fruit enters into a dialogue with you about third-world economics and the benefits of a meat-free diet. I mean, what else could they be talking about?

In Memory of Joe Holmberg

Ex-boyfriend and good friend Joe Holmberg sadly, passed away on Thursday December 28th at 7.25 GMT in is new hometown of Paris. He was being looked after by his girlfriend Emilie and his parents Geoff and Sheila. Joe had been diagnosed with malignant cancer, but friends and family were all hopeful that he would come through the chemotherapy. I simply don't know what to write at the moment, but I can't leave his death unmarked. Joe was a great soul, and the world is diminished by not having him around. Joe will be cremated and a service will be held first in Paris, then later in the UK. See his old blog for more details. His old band, Republic of Heaven, have written an obituary. There is also a Facebook group, which we'd all hoped would be used to mark Joe's progress back to health. My thoughts are with the whole Holmberg family, Emilie & Olivia.
